Each box contains a collection of bespoke and unique creative writing prompts delivered to your door, to help get you unblocked and writing again. And just like how no person or story is the same, no box of ideas is the same either.
From old vintage photographs, quirky postcards, and unopened letters, to colourful packs of words. Each box is unique. Our Prompt Boxes will help you write fiction and non-fiction or you can use them to write poetry.
The Prompt Box
The Prompt Box is our creative writing prompt pack. Each box contains unique, creative, and inspiring writing prompts all wrapped up and delivered to your door. You’ll also get a beautiful 16-page workbook to help you get the most from the prompts.
Our Prompt Boxes will help you write fiction and non-fiction, or you can use them to write poetry. You’ll also get lots of guidance in our Prompt Box workbooks.
The aim of The Prompt Box is to:

What exactly do I get?
Five unique writing prompts. From photographs to keys to borrowed words from novels, each prompt box is individual and bespoke, as we use different prompts to inspire your creativity.
Plus a printed workbook filled with even more prompts, questions, and activities to help you get the most out of the items in your box.
Your writing prompts will be beautifully presented in a hand-wrapped gift box.
The cost includes second-class postage to your chosen UK address.
What do I do with the prompts?
As you unwrap the prompts, keep a pen and paper to hand and see what stories they start to spark. Hold the items and answer the questions they prompt, create characters, and explore ideas. Read through the workbook and allow it to push your ideas further, stretching your creativity.
The more you put into The Prompt Box, the more you’ll get out of it. You’ll need to use your imagination, but the payoff will be lots of wonderful stories.
Are all boxes the same?
We currently have four different Prompt Boxes – Spark, Inspire, Create and Ignite. Each box has different prompts and includes a workbook. The best part of the Prompt Box is the surprise elements. You don’t know what’s in your box. We would encourage you to refrain from looking at what’s included, but if you just can’t help yourself, you’ll find some details below. The surprise of not knowing is more fun though, we promise.

A ring in a box, an envelope full of surprises, a missing piece of evidence, a bag of words and a story starter.

Each box is also hand-wrapped and packaged to make your opening experience more joyful.

FAQS
When will I receive my Prompt Box?
The prompt box is a ‘one-off’ product. This means when you place your order, we’ll create your box and we’ll let you know when we pop it in the post for you.
When will I be charged?
You’ll be charged straight away.
Can I give this item as a gift?
If you’d like to gift a box to a friend or family member, please get in touch as soon as you’ve purchased the item and we will ensure your Prompt Box gets sent to the right person. You will also see a pop-up box on the order page that asks you to confirm the postal address.
Do you post outside of the UK?
Unfortunately, we are currently only posting The Prompt Box within the UK. If you are overseas and would a box, please email info@derbyshirewritingschool.com and we can look into the additional postage charges.
What do I do with my prompts?
The whole purpose of the Prompt Box is to stretch your imagination. The workbook included in your box will provide you with a step-by-step guide, but this product is about you challenging your creativity and stretching your ideas. Try new genres and styles. Remember, it should be fun.
Is postage included?
Second-class Royal Mail postage is included in the cost for UK addresses. The Prompt Box should fit through your letterbox so you don’t need to be home for the delivery.
What if I’m not happy with my box?
We think you’ll love our prompt boxes, but if you’re not happy, please email us and we’ll try to fix the problem. If we can’t fix it, we’ll give you a refund.
Please note
Our prompt boxes are often made from vintage and used ephemera. Please only purchase this product if you are happy with this, and understand that most items are previously owned, pre-loved and handmade. This means products are not always ‘new’, but we feel it adds to the charm. An example is old black-and-white photographs or second-hand books.
